YOUTH TRIATHLON

Peak Performance Youth Triathlon Program

The Peak Performance Summer Youth Triathlon program is designed for first-timers or athletes with prior experience.  Our goal is to give young athletes exposure to the sport and build basic skills as they advance in the sport.  We hold practice two times a week and during most practices we will do a brick moving from swim to bike, swim to run, or bike to run.  Each 90 minute practice is designed to give athletes a low pressure, fun, and positive environment to learn the sport and work at their pace.

We have 3 race options throughout the summer. These will be great opportunities for athletes to test their fitness and sharpen their skills. If you athlete can’t attend these events there are other local races we can suggest.

Peak Performance Summer Youth Triathlon Program

Swim

Open water swimming will take place at Bear Creek Lake Park. The focus is on learning proper sighting technique and gaining confidence in the open water.

A note on safety:
Athletes need to be able to swim up to 200m without stopping and be confident swimmers. This program is not designed for first time swimmers who have not taken lessons and are not confident swimming without aides. All of our coaches are CPR/First Aid certified and are confident swimmers who will be in the water with them or in kayaks.

Bike

Our goal is to teach athletes how to ride confidently.  We will work on learning how to ride in a small pack, how to signal to other athletes, how to shift properly and how to corner.

Athletes don’t need to have all these skills but should be able to comfortably ride for 45 minutes.

Athlete Equipment Requirement:

  • Proper fitting helmet
  • Proper fitting bike (road or mountain)
  • An extra tube, tire levers, rear-facing light, and seat bag

Optional Equipment

  • Clip in pedals
  • Clip-on bars
  • Bike shorts

Run

The Peak Performance Running program will fulfill the weekly run needs of this program. This allows athletes the opportunity to attend the Peak Performance Running Practices and run with the program that best fits their needs and abilities. The Peak Performance Running program is a youth program that can meet the needs of beginners to elite youth runners.

Athletes of all abilities are encouraged to attend the running practices when possible. These practices are often trail runs or track practices to work on technique, speed, and form. For more information go to our Programs Page
